Breath of the Wild leviathan bones were whales from past games all along?

Leviathan Bones The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild whale skeletons

Do you remember the “Leviathan Bones” quest from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, where you were tracking down three giant skeletons of whales scattered around the vast landscape? Well, a new Reddit theory suggests that all three of these skeletons are the remains of famous whales from previous games in the series.

The image above suggests that the above whales are, from top to bottom, Levias from Skyward Sword, the Ocean King from Phantom Hourglass, and the Wind Fish from Link’s Awakening. These side-by-side comparisons aren’t a slam dunk for confirming the theory, but the presence of wings in that last image is verrry interesting. And since Breath of the Wild takes place somewhere at the end of the established timeline, it’s a little more plausible.

Nintendo stuck like a million little details and Easter eggs into Breath of the Wild, so the leviathan bones having a deeper connection to Zelda lore would be far from shocking. Regardless, it’s a testament to the game’s quality that we are still finding new things to talk about in it!
