Today is Pokémon Day 2020, and the Pokémon Company has revealed who the new Mythical Pokémon coming to Pokémon Sword and Shield is: Zarude! It is a Dark and Grass type and described as a “rogue monkey,” because, sure, whatever. And it is 5’11” and 154.3 pounds and has the Leaf Guard ability. On top of that, we have details about new Max Raid Battle opportunities beginning in the game today, including against Dynamax Mewtwo.
For starters, here is how the new Mythical Pokémon is described: “This Mythical Pokémon lives in a pack deep in the dense forests of Galar. It treats anyone that isn’t part of its pack with immediate hostility. When fighting, Zarude swings around from tree branches, attacking relentlessly with its sharp claws. Its quick wit helps it excel in battles. Zarude is only available in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, and can’t be encountered in regular gameplay.” Pretty much everything you would expect to hear about a rogue monkey, right?
As for Max Raid Battles, from Wednesday, February 26, at 4:00 p.m. PST until Sunday, March 1, at 3:59 p.m. PST, trainers can take on Dynamax Mewtwo. However, it’s so powerful that it cannot be caught by trainers; rather, beating the dude bestows rare items like Ability Capsules.
To sweeten the deal, Dynamax Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Charmander, Charmeleon, Squirtle, and Wartortle are all available over the same period in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and trainers can catch them.
What do you make of these new additions to the game?
