Poor Luigi can’t even have his own platforming game. Nintendo announced today that if you play New Super Luigi U on the Switch, via the re-release of New Super Mario Bros. U, then you’ll have the option to play as Mario as well. For some, the two characters do not have any difference, but there are a few small changes. Luigi is able to jump higher than Mario, but it is harder to stop him after a run. Luigi has a bit of a slide at the end of his run.
Nintendo also announced that levels in New Super Luigi U will start with 200 seconds instead of just 100. The Wii U version of the title was known for shorter, but more chaotic levels.
In the main game, players can now choose to use any character in single-player.
Finally, Nintendo revealed that buttons can be re-mapped in the pause button when playing either of the games. This will make life a lot easier for those switching from Xbox to Switch, given that the “a” and “b” buttons are reversed on the two platforms.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, along with its counterpart New Super Luigi U, will be launching together as a single package for $59.99. This Switch re-release will be arriving on store shelves January 11, 2019.
