Nippon Ichi Software has provided the latest on its upcoming survival horror game Yomawari 3 with details on characters, memories, lost items, and gameplay.
Yomawari 3 protagonist & characters
The protagonist is a child who walks the town’s streets at night, searching for memories that are the key to unlocking a curse placed upon her. She regains forgotten “memories” whenever she finds something that was “lost in the past,” scattered throughout different parts of town.
Yomawari 3 features a customizable protagonist for the first time in the series. The above image shows examples of some of the different protagonists you can make.
Yomawari 3 introduces a mysterious girl who appears in the protagonist’s memories. She seems to be wandering around town in search of something. She also walks around carrying a large camera. Total Fatal Frame vibes with this chick, but it could very well be a nod to the Konami horror series.
I won’t get into spoilers, but if you’ve played the previous Yomawari games, you know there’s always something with pets, and not in a good way. This is the protagonist’s fluffy white cat Mugi.
Spooky monsters – Kotori
Yomawari always comes up with some of the unexpectedly spooky monsters. This time, the protagonist will deal with monsters like the man-faced bird known as the “Kotori.” While it might not look as scary, it seems to have the ability to look at everything happening in town at the same time. It appears to be waiting for someone, and you’ll want to be careful at night if it’s nearby.
Memories & lost items
As previously detailed, your objective is to retrieve lost memories of the protagonist by finding certain items. These can be just about anything. For example, something like a small pencil in the protagonist’s house can bring back some of these forgotten memories.
These memories act as the keys to the story’s progression. If you go someplace that the protagonist doesn’t remember visiting, the path will be blocked by a Kotori. That means you still need to find some key items before moving forward. That’s essentially the gameplay flow of Yomawari 3.
Lastly, you’ll also find lost items while exploring the town in Yomawari 3. These could be anything from a pebble on the road to a mysterious note written by someone. These items will often be important clues or a way to help out the protagonist.
Yomawari 3 will be available for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in Japan on April 21, 2022. The game has yet to be announced outside of Japan. Check out an extended teaser trailer in our previous report for a look at gameplay.
