Meet the characters of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition in the latest trailer. The game launches on May 29, and anyone who never played the original is probably wondering what the game is about. The plot is pretty complicated, but for now you can get to know the, mostly, Homs (humans) that you’ll be interacting with and controlling later this month.

First, of course, is Shulk. He’s the protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and one of the few Homs who can actually control the Monado, an ancient weapon once wielded by the titan that humans live on. Then there’s Reyn. He’s a firm friend and powerful ally, even when he’s aimlessly smashing his weapon against the armor of a Mechon soldier.

Fiora is motivated to join her friends because she wants to save her home. She also comes out with a fantastic line about sandwiches. Meanwhile, Dunban is a celebrated hero whose personality develops as the story progresses.

Sharla is the best of both the sniper world and the medic world. She’ll patch you up if you get hurt and then send you on your way, watching your back from afar the entire time. Riki is a Nopon, another race that lives on the Bionis titan, and while he’s incredibly annoying, he can be a key member of the party that you pick. Finally, we have Melia. She’s a mage and can deal some devastating blows against your enemies.

Right at the end of the Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition trailer there’s a short clip from the epilogue DLC for the game, Future Connected. While it doesn’t give anything away in terms of story, it does feature the two new Nopon characters, Kino and Nene.

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
