After last month’s triple threat of Double Dragon II, City Connection, and–wait for it–Volleyball, Nintendo’s determination to leave no stone unturned in their online NES-to-Switch-pipeline continues this month. On July 17, Wrecking Crew and Donkey Kong 3 will join the catalog. Also on July 17, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to enjoy a new rewind feature that allows players to roll back gameplay and undo mistakes.
The rewind feature can be seen in action below. It appears to allow players to go back to specific frames, giving a lot of precision in how you erase your deaths. Just in time for some Wrecking Crew do-overs, I guess.
If you are interested in learning a bit more about Wrecking Crew and Donkey Kong 3, see below for Nintendo’s video revealing the two titles for July.
Jokes aside, this is not really an awful month by NSO standards. The rewind feature is a welcome addition that will give players their own difficulty options while navigating some of these games. Wrecking Crew and Donkey Kong 3, meanwhile, do not look like bad NES titles by any means–we’ve certainly seen much worse in the Switch’s 46-game NES library–but at this point, I do not think I am alone when I say I am NES’d out. There is a massive Nintendo library beyond the NES, and its Switch Online victory lap has gone on long enough.
What about you? Are you excited for either of these games? Is Wrecking Crew on Switch a dream come true? Will the rewind feature help you out at all, or are you just completely burnt out on NES games by this point?
