Which reward memberships do you use when buying games?

reward memberships

Yesterday, we reported that GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards Pro memberships are getting a severe downgrade. The service is increasing in price while stripping away the benefit of 10 percent off preowned games. In its place will be a monthly $5 coupon.

This unfortunate news got me thinking about my history with GameStop and their rewards program in particular. Just how many people use these programs?

Personally, I’ve only ever used the GameStop PowerUp Rewards memberships. As a past employee, I was able to stack the discounts of my Pro membership with my employee discount. So I often looked into how I could best abuse the system to my advantage.

I was able to abuse this further by getting a GameStop credit card, which often rewards its members with more points than a regular Pro. So I’m sad to see the program take a hit. I guess it really is a sign of the times for this gaming retailer.

But I know there are many more options for rewards programs out there. For example, Best Buy used to have its own membership system that once let you save 20 percent on new games. Amazon also offers $10 off select preorders for new games.

There are many different programs out there. Which ones, if any at all, do you all use? Leave your answers in the comments below!

I love all kinds of video games. I personally find the most enjoyment in JRPGs, Visual Novels, and pretty much anything Nintendo makes. I'm always open to discovering new types of games, so I'll be happy to check out anything someone suggests.
