The last few days of this Direct drought have been very rough indeed. So rough, that we’re clinging to news like fresh Animal Crossing: New Horizons TV spots rather than dissecting a constant stream of info on major upcoming games and releases. Commercials, though, can still at least fuel a conversation. Nintendo has run all sorts of memorable commercials over time. Some are memorable, some are funny, and some are just plain weird. What Nintendo commercial has stuck with you the most?
My pick is an old Pikmin 2 commercial that always stuck with me due to how utterly bizarre it is. In the commercial, embedded above, an entire crowd of real-life people dressed in spandex Pikmin costumes all frantically crowd a poor hot dog vendor while on a feverish mission to get lunch for their apparent leader. Pikmin 2 was also one of the first-ever releases I got excited for ahead of time–I was only six years old when it came out–and I only knew it existed because of commercials like this one.
What Nintendo commercial is the most burned into your brains? Perhaps your pick was your first exposure to a game you ended up loving. Maybe it told a quick, memorable story. Perhaps, like the Pikmin 2 commercial, it was just so strange that you can’t let it go.
