What will you miss the most about E3 this year?

E3 2020 online experience ESA

After the physical event was canceled over COVID-19 concerns, we learned today that there will not be a digital alternative for E3 this year, either. No E3 whatsoever. While the show has been on the decline for a while now, it is still kind of sad to see it totally gone this way. What will you miss the most this year?

I’m going to miss the cohesiveness of the entire event. Getting geared up to watch multiple press conferences a day throughout the opening weekend is my favorite part of the week. As I said, the event lost its edge a while, but I fondly remember my first exposure to many of my favorite games coming one after another in E3 pressers. I vividly recall learning about Halo Reach when you could still watch E3 on TV. I remember losing my mind upon the reveal of Star Fox 64 3D. I think back to the last days of school in my 9th-grade year, where I finished my finals and rushed home to see Super Mario 3D World announced. The overall feel of the event – one exhilarating announcement after the other as the biggest publishers in gaming go toe to toe – is what I’ll miss the most. In a way, that was already slipping away, with companies like Sony pulling out way ahead of time, but I miss it all the same.
