Veteran Approaching! Ike Returns to Fight for His Friends in Smash for Wii U and 3DS

Prepare yourself! Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS had their roster increased to thirty fighters today with the return of Ike from Fire Emblem. Alongside Marth, he is the second character from Fire Emblem to be confirmed for the next installments of Smash and sports his look for Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn despite recently making an appearance in Fire Emblem: Awakening on Nintendo 3DS.

\”Pic of the day. Ike, the swordsman of magnificent strength, joins the battle! Strike your foes down with his powerful smash attacks.\”

Though Ike may have changed his outfit, it still looks like he’s going to operate as he did in the previous game. In Brawl, Ike was one of the slowest characters in the entire game, but made up for it by having ridiculous levels of power. Ike is notorious for being able to kill at absurdly low percents thanks to his smash attacks and powerful aerial attacks. Likely, all of his power, and lack of speed, will be returning as is for the new games.

Sakurai provided us with a second picture as well to help show off Ike’s high-definition debut.

\”For this game, Ike’s design is based on the hero that appears in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. His sword deals heavy damage in Smash Bros., so this design suits him very well! Rest assured, he can use Aether as well.\”

Ike has certainly buffed up since Brawl’s release back in 2008. His musculature is ridiculous. It\’ll be hard to wear this fighter down, especially with his new armor, too. For his second appearance, Ike surely doesn\’t disappoint!

That being said, this does call into question if Fire Emblem: Awakening will get any character representation at all. So far, Fire Emblem has consistently had two representatives per Smash game (Marth in both Melee and Brawl, with Roy and Ike appearing in Melee and Brawl, respectively). However, considering the success of Awakening on 3DS, it seems likely that Fire Emblem will be allowed a third rep and that this rep will have his or her origins in that game. I wouldn\’t count an Awakening representative out whatsoever.

What do you think about today’s update? Sound off in the comments if you like Ike!
