Use Your Switch Joy-Con to Play SEGA Forever Titles on Mobile

SEGA just released its new SEGA Forever app on iOS and Android. If you didn’t know, the app is a collection of classic SEGA titles where the selection will be updated each month. From Genesis to Dreamcast, SEGA has promised to bring titles from “all of its generations”. These retro titles have been given slight upgrades to have Leaderboards and even controller support. Speaking of controller support, looks like you can use a Joy-Con controller to play the games.

Reddit user Marxally did some experimenting and found that after syncing their Joy-Con to their Android phone, it was compatible with the SEGA Forever app. It’s not a surprise that the Joy-Con can be detected by the Android phone since it uses Bluetooth, but it is interesting that the SEGA Forever app does have proper support for it. So, if you don’t have a dedicated wireless controller foe your phone/tablet, you can just go ahead and use one of your Joy-Cons. As the app grows to feature 3D titles from the Dreamcast era, controller support is definitely going to come in handy.

While SEGA Forever is currently only on mobile devices, the company has not ruled out bringing it to Switch at some point as well since it can technically be classified as a ‘portable console’.

As for a side note; we should all be used to Nintendo and SEGA being buddy-buddy these days, but just imagine a headline like this in the 90s: ‘Use your Nintendo controller to play SEGA games’…..that would cause riots.
