It was admittedly difficult to determine if Untitled Goose Game was real or not. The whole thing seemed like an elaborate developer’s joke when first appearing last year. Well, now this supposed joke not only has a real publisher behind it, but also an upcoming Nintendo Switch release.

Untitled Goose Game (yes, that is the real title) is a stealth puzzle game where you play as an annoying goose. The idea is to check off objectives and terrorize the humans along your way. It’s the kind of game that truly allows you to not give a duck. (I’ll see myself out.)

This game concept was crazy enough to grab the attention of publishing company Panic. They most notably served as publisher for Campo Santo’s game Firewatch. Now they hope to help bring Untitled Goose Game similar success when it releases in early 2019 for PC, Mac, and as a console exclusive for Nintendo Switch.

What’s good for the goose…

After partnering up, Panic co-founder Cabel Sasser released the following statement:

We’re crazy excited to work with House House to bring this funny, good-feeling game into a sometimes bad-feeling world. There’s something so nice about the simple joy of laughing and causing mischief that we know will delight video game-playing families everywhere.

The minimalist visual style coupled with the slapstick comedy truly gives Untitled Goose Game its own identity in gaming. It’s like that silent movie short you would enjoy before the Pixar main attraction. It’s also hard not to imagine this as a double feature with Donut County if sticking with movie analogies. Both games would certainly attract similar crowds going by the brand of comedy and visuals alone. Now with the Switch announcement, you can honk at unsuspecting farmers wherever you go.

There will be a playable build of Untitled Goose Game during PAX West, so be sure to check it out if you’re in Seattle. Otherwise, you can find more information at goose.game.
