Untitled Goose Game snags Game of the Year at DICE Awards

Untitled Goose Game grabbed a big win at DICE yesterday, taking home the show’s 2019 Game of the Year award. It’s another accolade in a long line of sales success, critical adoration, and enthusiastic fan projects for the mischievous goose. Being named DICE’s Game of the Year however, is a completely different kind of honor. Untitled Goose Game is now immortalized alongside twenty-two of gaming’s greatest, including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TimeHalf-Life 2, and The Last of Us.

Standout charm, humor, and creativity clearly helped Untitled Goose Game stand out in a year crowded with great titles like Super Mario Maker 2, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Astral Chain, and Luigi’s Mansion 3. Still, developer House House was a little shocked to see their village harassment simulator sitting up there with the best of the best.

Do you think that Untitled Goose Game was worthy of a Game of the Year award? If not, which game would you have rather seen honored yesterday at DICE? While I personally would have slapped GOTY on a different game, perhaps Luigi’s Mansion 3, 2019 did not have any standout title head and shoulders above the rest. There are plenty of worthy candidates, this goosey adventure among them.
