Another of the myriad announcements from the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase was dictator simulator Tropico 6 – Nintendo Switch Edition from Kalypso Media Group. The game will be strong-arming its way to Switch on Nov. 6, and as its title would suggest, it has been optimized to run on the hybrid’s hardware.
You will be playing on “large archipelagos” for the first time in this series, overseeing multiple islands at once. In classic dictator fashion, you can send a task force to “raid foreign lands, steal world wonders, and bolster your personal collection.” In turn, you can also customize the look of your palace. Players can furthermore construct bridges and tunnels and facilitate public transport with taxis, buses, and aerial cable cars, which is a decidedly less evil aspect of the dictator simulation.
Tropico 6 – Nintendo Switch Edition brings back election speeches, and the game hilariously encourages you to “make promises that you can’t possibly keep.” There is also a “revised” research system that delves into the political aspects of being a successful dictator.
Initial reception to the visuals of Kalypso Media Group’s Tropico 6 – Nintendo Switch Edition has already been lukewarm, but if you try not to come into it expecting a PC-caliber experience, hopefully you’ll enjoy yourself.
