UK publisher Coatsink and publisher Outright Games have announced Transformers: Battlegrounds for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam with a teaser trailer. The war will span from Central City to Cybertron itself, and it will launch on Oct. 23. The premise of the game is (You’ll never believe this!) Megatron is after the Allspark, and Bumblebee and the Autobots “need a new commander to help save Earth.” Maybe Optimus Prime is stuck in the bathroom or something?
Frankly, it’s not entirely clear what kind of game Transformers: Battlegrounds is yet, even with the teaser trailer. The overhead camera perspective suggests the game may have a strategic slant to it, as opposed to being an action frenzy like Daemon X Machina. Coatsink’s vibrant visual style here is enticing in any case, and it fits the “family-friendly” vibe that Outright Games goes for. Also, the game will offer multiplayer options.
About the new title, Hasbro SVP Corporate Strategy and Business Affairs Mark Blecher said, “Transformers: Battlegrounds is a new and authentic take on what a Transformers video game can be. It’s exciting for us to bring the epic story of the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons to life for a new generation of fans on console.”
Stay tuned for more updates on Transformers: Battlegrounds.
