Publisher Outright Games and developer Coatsink announced Transformers: Battlegrounds back in June with almost no details of what the game would actually be like to play. Not a whole lot has changed since then, though today the publisher revealed at least a little more in a short new gameplay trailer, in addition to announcing a Digital Deluxe Edition of the game.
Transformers: Battlegrounds is a “tactical” game that may be played single-player or in co-op, and that’s as much description as PR dares to offer. The gameplay trailer seems to indicate that the battles involve turn-based strategy though, across urban or rural environments.
The story meanwhile is that Megatron is after the Allspark, and Bumblebee and the Autobots need a “new commander” to help them save Earth.
The Transformers: Battlegrounds Digital Deluxe Edition will include four Autobot skin packs and an exclusive arcade game mode called CUBE, which is described with, “It’s Autobots vs. Decepticons as each team battles it out, using their unique special abilities to keep control of the CUBE across four unique arenas.” No pricing for the Digital Deluxe Edition has been announced, but it seems these extras won’t be made available physically.
It likewise seems Outright Games really just wants you to buy the game digitally because the Digital Deluxe Edition is 10% off if you preorder it, and doing so will also net you exclusive Nemesis Prime and Goldfire Bumblebee skins.
In any case, Transformers: Battlegrounds preorders begin on Oct. 2, and it will release Oct. 23 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
