Today’s Nintendo News Gathered Together

Man, did E3 come early this year? If one thing is for sure, I can say today’s Nintendo Direct satisfied many. Those who came in with lower expectations probably haven\’t grasped what just happened and those who came in with higher expectations leave pleased. To put it into perspective, the Japanese gaming giant just laid out for us what to expect at E3 2013 and what to expect overall for the Wii U this year. Here’s the rundown of what just happened organized into one place.

HD Zelda: One New, One Remade

After first being talked about at Nintendo’s E3 2 years ago, The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma gave us the first information about the next entry in this widely appreciated series. He talked about the team focusing on \”rethinking the conventions of Zelda,\” which means putting aside dungeon puzzle completion and adventures being single player only. Aonuma promises a reborn Zelda that will dive into the series early inspirations. As for the graphical aspects, they seem to be experimenting at the moment however an example was displayed in glorious HD which came out to be a remade version of the Wind Waker in HD coming to the Wii U this August. The game will be able to be played fully on the Wii U GamePad along with some new GamePad features being added to the game.

\”Our mission in developing this new Zelda game for Wii U is quite plainly to re-think the conventions of Zelda. I\’m referring to the expectation that the player is supposed to complete dungeons in a certain order, or that you\’re supposed to play by yourself. The things we\’ve come to take for granted recently.\”

\”We want to set aside these conventions, get back to basics and create a newborn Zelda so that the players can best enjoy the real essence of the franchise.\”

He admitted that Nintendo hadn\’t managed to achieve this goal with Skyward Sword.

\”We had actually worked on this kind of challenge with Skyward Sword, but we weren\’t able to put effort into changing the linear path structure of the game.\”

\”I hope to be able to talk to you in more detail about how it will change after I see it come together a bit more.\”

At E3 2013: Smash Bros., New 3D Action Mario, and Mario Kart for Wii U

In edition to discussion about already announced titles and Wii U services, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata laid out the groundwork for a strong showing at Nintendo’s Wii U E3 conference, revealing that a new Mario Kart for the Wii U and the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. will be making appearances in gameplay form. That not even being all, the same team that brought to us Super Mario Galaxy will be debuting their new Super Mario Action series this year at E3.

Shin Megami Tensei Crosses Over With Fire Emblem

Characters from Sega and Capcom don\’t seem to be the only ones making a crossover with Nintendo Characters as revealed during this mornings smashing edition of Nintendo Direct. Iwata depicted to us that another crossover game was on it’s way: Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei. We could assume that this offspring from Intelligent and Atlus games will be a strategy RPG, but for now, here’s a trailer.

Monolithsoft’s New Wii U RPG

From the creators of Xenoblade Chronicles comes a new RPG adventure for Wii U. We don\’t quite exactly know what it really is, but, from the footage displayed, it does give off very similar qualities to Xenoblade at least in gameplay and artstyle. Will it be a sequel to Chronicles? Given the trailer’s finishing display of the letter \”X\” it does seem quite likely, but if one things for sure, you\’ll be able to experience the game in glorious HD.

Virtual Console is Coming to Wii U

Nothing really surprising here, but we did get the scoop on when the virtual console would arrive on Wii U which will be this April.  The Virtual Console will initially launch with NES and SNES titles and will soon come out with GameBoy Advance titles. The pricing hasn\’t changed from the Wii, but if you\’ve bought a virtual console game before and want to repurchase it on the Wii U, you\’ll be able to do so at a reduced price. Also noted, you\’ll be able to play the virtual console games from the GamePad and added Miiverse support should make your experience more connected. They\’ll also be a starting a 30th anniversary campaign which will allow you to download a different NES game for 30 cents every 30 days. Balloon Fight is already available to download right now!

  • January: Balloon Fight
  • February: F-Zero
  • March: Punch-Out Featuring Mr. Dream
  • April: Kirby’s Adventure
  • May: Super Metroid
  • June: Yoshi
  • July: Donkey Kong

Party On The Wii U

No, not literally, but if you enjoyed the first party installment on the Wii, you\’ll be able to play the next installment of the game this Summer. While not given an official title yet, it does resemble some of the original Wii U demos, but if one things for sure, like Nintendo Land, this will be another game that shows off what Wii U has to offer.

\”Yoshi’s Land\” Is Real

What originally initiated as a rumor after a user accidentally hacked Miiverse, turned out to be true! A brand new Yoshi game made by the same team that brought you Kirby’s Epic Yarn is in development for Wii U under the supervision of Yoshi’s Story and Yoshi’s Island director Takashi Tezuka. So far, we only know that it\’ll turn out to be a platforming adventure in the same art-style as Kirby’s Epic Yarn.

Some Sweet System and Miiverse Enhancements

Miiverse is continuing to expand as it will be allowing users to create their own communities and make space for more than one community per game (Nintendo Enthusiast Miiverse community?). Nintendo is also in the process of developing Miiverse for PCs and smartphones to be released this year. Although Nintendo has recently talked about releasing Miiverse for the 3DS, they didn\’t mention anything about it in this Nintendo Direct. Perhaps they\’ll do it in a future 3DS specific Nintendo Direct. Additionally, it was revealed that Wii Fit U will enable you to compare fitness notes, but in more exciting news, after the news that Pikmin 3 was being delayed to this year, it was assumed that the game was being improved. Rightly so, in Pikmin 3, you\’ll now be able to take pictures of tiny Pikmin wildlife with the Wii U GamePad and post it directly to Miiverse.

Today’s Nintendo news was packed with exclusivity. From the plethora of big news to small news such as that of  Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101, there’s really a lot to be excited for this year and at this years E3. We\’ll be sure to bring you the latest news regarding these discussed topics.
