What classic FPS should come to Switch?

TimeSplitters 2 classic first-person shooter for Switch port

After today’s news of Doom 64‘s delay on Switch and the increasing likelihood of a Call of Juarez: Gunslinger port, I’ve had first-person shooters on the brain. Specifically, I’ve been thinking about other classic FPSs within the genre that would fit well on Nintendo’s hybrid console. A lot of great first-person shooters would be right at home on the console, but I specifically have to shout out a local multiplayer favorite of mine: TimeSplitters 2.

TimeSplitters 2 is the perfect realization of the formula pioneered in GoldenEye 007, which is no surprise since many talented developers worked on each game. Beyond its refined gameplay, TimeSplitters 2 is bolstered by its awesome variety in weaponry, maps, and modes. Laser guns, Old West revolvers, and modern military rifles go together more naturally than you’d think. Swapping between maps set throughout time from Aztec temples to UFO bases always kept the action fresh, though that was hardly necessary with modes like Capture the Bag, Virus, and my personal favorite, Shrink, where your height changes based on your ranking in the match. To be frank, it’s one of the top local multiplayer shooters ever. Sooner or later, it needs a revival, and a Switch version with handheld download play is a dream I probably can’t let go of.

What FPS would you like to see revived on Switch? The genre has a rich history, including dozens of great games from the last few generations that never made it to a Nintendo console. Perhaps you’d love to get lost in a single-player adventure like Far Cry 3, or you have a hankering for some of the more popular Call of Duty games. Sound off with your most wanted in the comments.
