The Wonderful 101’s Weak Debut in Japan

While Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Masou Kishin III: Pride of Justice came out on top in the week of August 19th to the 25th, Media Create’s Japanese software and hardware sales charts also revealed a devastatingly poor debut for Platinum Games\’ anticipated The Wonderful 101, which wasn\’t even able to crack the top ten software list.

The Wii U exclusive hit 14th on the software chart with just 5,258 units sold, although in fairness the game was only available in the last two days of this particular week. We\’ll have to wait and see if The Wonderful 101’s numbers pick up in the next week and if the game will succeed elsewhere in the world.

Meanwhile, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team clocked in over 20,000 units sold on the 3DS for third place while both Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Luigi’s Mansion 2 held onto their Top 10 spots at 8th and 9th, respectively.

For hardware sales, the 3DS continues to dominate – the 3DS XL and 3DS garnered a combined 50,000+ units sold. However, Nintendo’s home console struggled to reach around 7,000. Both the Playstation 3 and Vita outsold the Wii U.
