The Witcher launches on Netflix on Dec. 20, but that’s old news! That’s only the first season. What about the second season? Well, uh, Netflix went ahead and confirmed that The Witcher season 2 is happening, over a month in advance of the launch of the series. So if you enjoy seeing Henry Cavill dressed up as medieval mutant Geralt of Rivia, you’re in luck.
Like season 1, The Witcher season 2 will be eight episodes long. It will go into production early next year and is intended to debut in 2021.

Of the announcement, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said, “I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri.” Netflix is looking to make this show its great fantasy epic, used to combat HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones spin-offs and Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series. A second season was all but guaranteed in the first place under the circumstances, and I hardly doubt series fans will take umbrage with the announcement.
Are you excited already for The Witcher season 2, or are you sensibly waiting to see if season 1 is any good first?
