The SNES Controllers for Nintendo Switch are now on sale

SNES Controller

When the Super Nintendo Entertainment System Online service was announced earlier this month, SNES controllers were announced along with it. However, Nintendo gave no date for the gadgets at that time. Today, though, that’s all in the past, as the peripherals will be here in the very near future.

North American Switch Online subscribers can head on over to Nintendo’s official site to pre-order the SNES controllers for $29.99 each (plus shipping and tax). Additionally, you can buy each controller separately, and they’ve upped the limit to four per account. The best part, though, is that they’ll be shipping later this week on Wednesday, Sept 18.

You’re in control

Like the controllers for the NES Online service, the SNES controllers will be compatible with all games on the service, as well as many other titles for the Switch. They won’t connect to the Switch’s sides like the NES controllers, but they will include a USB-C charging cable. There are extra buttons on the top and bottom, as well, presumably for Home, Screenshot, and Sync. Unlike the controllers for the NES Online service, however, the SNES controllers feature a more ergonomic design, as Nintendo realized in the late 1980’s that humans do not have rectangular hands.

Personally, I am thrilled about the SNES controllers shipping so soon. The Super Nintendo is a staple of my gaming upbringing, and Nintendo knows how to keep their quality up when it comes to consoles and accessories. Being able to use these controllers with the SNES Online service, as well as other ports like Collection of Mana, Mega Man Legacy Collection, and the upcoming remake of Link’s Awakening has me chomping at the bit (all 16 of them). I may even try to work out how to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate if it connects.

Will you be picking up the SNES controllers? What games are you looking forward to playing with it? Let us know!
