This is a classic case of good news and bad news. The bad news is that The Outer Worlds has been delayed on Nintendo Switch from its original March 2020 release date to a later date. This news comes by way of publisher Private Division, who explains that port team Virtuos needs more time to complete the development, which has been hampered by the heart-wrenching impact of coronavirus. However, on the bright side, The Outer Worlds will release physically on a cart and not be an annoyingly empty box with a download code.
We’re delaying @OuterWorlds on Nintendo Switch due to the coronavirus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development. We’ll now be releasing the physical version on cartridge. Once we have a new launch date, we’ll let you know!

To quote the Virtuos site, “Virtuos’ largest studio is located in Shanghai, China. Virtuos also has studios in Chengdu and Xian China, Saigon, [and] Vietnam,” among other places. So it makes sense that coronavirus, first discovered in China and now ravaging Asia, would have such an unfortunate impact on their operations. Obviously, people’s health and safety come ahead of getting a port of an Obsidian game out on Nintendo Switch as fast as possible. A delay is fine.
In the meantime, we did just receive new screenshots of The Outer Worlds showing off how it looks on Switch, and it seems to be shaping up nicely. We’ll let you know when the title gets a new release date on Switch.
Are you at least happy to hear the game will be arriving on a cart when it comes?
