The original Yo-kai Watch may be headed to Switch this year

The original Yo-kai Watch is headed to Switch, according to an odd Level-5 announcement video. Level-5’s official Video YouTuber Dennoji Reto has announced on her channel that joining the launch of the Nintendo Switch Lite handheld on September 20, 2019 will be Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Yo-kai Watch. At least, we are pretty sure Yo-kai Watch is on the way…

Reto-chan explicitly states that Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch will launch on the same day as the Nintendo Switch Lite, but only hints at the first Yo-kai Watch‘s re-release on the Switch. While it’s safe to believe the game is headed as a Nintendo 3DS port to the Nintendo Switch, it’s yet to be confirmed by Level-5, and it’s assumed that Reto’s off-handed comment was just to spark fan excitement over in Japan. Of course, this means no talk of localizations just yet.

The original Yo-kai Watch initially released for Japan in 2013 on the Nintendo 3DS. It’s the first game in the series that launched the Yo-kai craze in Japan, which would follow with a toy line, an anime series, and numerous spin-offs and sequels. The original title was localized for North America in November of 2015, Australia the following December, and Europe in 2016. Yo-kai Watch 4 will receive an English translation, but no release information has been released.
