The latest Fortnite mode mixes dancing and shooting

Fortnite is shaping up to be one of the most popular video games ever. It’s been the topic of plenty of conversations over the past year. Season 6 started last week, and it looks like Epic Games is getting ready to unleash a new mode soon. The latest game type is called Disco Domination, and it seems like dancing will be the emphasis.

Polygon revealed some information regarding the upcoming mode.

A pop-up that appeared on Fortnite’s in-game news feed acted as our first hint about the mode, and even provided some of the earliest details. It seems like the new mode will be all about dancing, or emoting, and require players to spend as much time using emotes in a certain area as possible, according to the description.

Disco Domination should be launching sometime this week. Limited time modes usually bring diverse game types to Fornite, which are nice distractions from the usual formula. Season 6 has drastically changed the landscape of the map, most notable levitating the always hectic Loot Lake.

Season 6 also adds pets as a cosmetic upgrade, as well as a mysterious item called Shadow Stones.

Another interesting update coming with season 6 is the introduction of the new item, Shadow Stones. These are consumables found in special “corrupted” areas of the map. Use one, and you’ll briefly go into “Shadow Form”, which grants you invisibility when still, on top of increased movement speed, fall damage immunity, and the ability to phase through objects. The effect only lasts 45 seconds, and you can’t use weapons while in Shadow Form, so players will have to make use of the new ability wisely.

Sony has also backtracked on its stance regarding cross-play. Though in beta at the moment, soon Nintendo Switch owners will be able to experience Fortnite via cross-play with Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile players.

The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross-platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.

Are you a fan of Fortnite? How are you enjoying season 6 at the moment? Disco Domination should be launching later this week and promises players a fun mix of dancing (which is always fun) and shooting. Be sure to let us know what you think of this limited time mode once it’s live.
