Yesterday we finally got another look at Pokémon Legends Arceus after six months of silence. This upcoming Switch adventure offers a new take on both the Pokémon formula and Sinnoh. Set in the distant past, the game presents us with an unsettled wilderness known as the Hisui Region. Game Freak recently gave us some artwork depicting the game map, and it seems to hold a few clues about the world and its plot. Let’s dive in!

Hisui Region map clues

This lovely map of the Hisui Region gives us a much better understanding of where its various environments and Pokémon are located. You can match up various beaches, fields, and forests based on the early footage, but there are also some more interesting landmarks. The angle has changed from the Sinnoh map, but you can make out lakes Verity, Valor, and Acuity, which could suggest a role for Mespirit, Uxie, and Azelf.

We have even more direct evidence of a role for two other legendaries: Dialga and Palkia. In the upper left-hand corner of the map, you can spot a group of humans dressed in clothes that clearly match the colors and style of Palkia. Meanwhile, a handful of people on the right side of the map are clad in clothes resembling Dialga. It seems the locals in the Hisui Region revere the Pokémon “gods” of space and time. What will we learn from them on our adventure? If you’re having a tough time seeing them, Reddit user SnooComics has provided some close-up shots:

Finally, we can see six markers on the map denoting distinct regions. One is Jubilife Village, the starting point and main hub town. We know from the official website that leveling up your Survey Corps ranks will grant you access to “new areas.” It seems likely then that Hisui Region will open up to us in five chunks over the course of the game.
