The Hero will seemingly come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this month

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Hero release date

[Update: Nintendo has surreptitiously changed the name of its new YouTube video, replacing the word “July” with “Summer.” This unfortunately implies that we are back to having no clear idea when the Hero will come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.]

The 2019 Nintendo E3 Direct confirmed a long-running rumor: the Hero from Dragon Quest is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, in classic Nintendo fashion, we did not know when precisely he would arrive in the game. In fact, we still don’t know exactly when the Hero will show up. But a new video from Nintendo about July releases features the Hero in Ultimate, implying he will arrive this month.

The original rumor about this character’s addition only made mention of Erdrick, the great hero of Dragon Quest III. The official reveal gave us the pleasant surprise of numerous heroic dudes from the Dragon Quest series to choose from, including the heroes of Dragon Quest IV, VIII, and XI. Between that and the fact that his skill set uses old-school RPG menus, there is so much here for JRPG fans (like me) to love.

Of course, the E3 Direct also revealed that Banjo and Kazooie are coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They will arrive some nebulous time in the fall. Between the Hero and Banjo, I wouldn’t be surprised if more people in the west are excited for Banjo, and vice versa. Personally, I’m extremely happy and excited about both of these additions.
