During Nintendo’s Indie World showcase today, Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro popped by to talk about his latest game. The Good Life is a “debt repayment RPG” that Swery and the rest of the team at White Owls is working on. It had a successful Kickstarter campaign and has been in development ever since. Swery announced at Indie World that The Good Life will be coming to Nintendo Switch at some point this year.

How to play a debt repayment RPG

In The Good Life, players take on the role of an American journalist who finds themselves stranded in a small town in England. In order to pay their way out of the town and return home, players must take on odd jobs for the villagers in this seemingly perfect location. However, after days of pitching in with sheep herding, taking pictures, or washing dishes, you begin to notice that things aren’t quite as they seem. A villager is murdered, and it’s down to you to use those journalistic skills to bring the killer to justice. To make matters slightly more complicated, everyone transforms into a dog or cat at night, including you. The sudden new complication of needing to solve a murder by chatting to house pets doesn’t make paying off your debt any easier.

The Good Life has always been slated for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The announcement of a Switch version is massively exciting.

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
