In the middle of November, The Game Awards unveiled its nominees for the 2020 ceremony, which takes place Dec. 10. Switch exclusives covered just a few different categories, including Game of the Year, Best Family Game, and Best Multiplayer Game. While the ultimate decision on these is down to fans, players have no bearing on the nominee shortlist. However, the The Game Awards Player’s Voice vote is a little different.

Live now, the Player’s Voice award has three brackets of voting, with the first bracket vote closing tomorrow. In the first round, there are 30 games to be voted for, with a few notable Nintendo releases in there. Of course, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is present, along with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

At the time of writing, New Horizons is faring the best, with 5% of the votes cast so far. It’ll be interesting to see if any of the three titles make it into round two or maybe further than that. New Horizons probably has the best chance, as its sheer popularity will probably translate into more fan votes.

What this style of voting does allow for is the fans to take part in the voting process right from the off. It’s somewhat ambiguous how the nominees of other categories are ultimately chosen, so we’ll be keeping our eye on this award.

Which of the listed games do you think should win in The Game Awards Player’s Voice?
