Our E3 show floor team had a chance to play The Elder Scrolls: Blades on the Switch today. The game was recently announced for the system alongside its mobile counterpart, and first impressions have been good so far.
After playing the demo, our own Brett Medlock and Greg Bargas interviewed Bethesda’s team to talk about the game. During this discussion, we had the chance to bring up some fan questions. One query in particular touched on the possibility of graphical enhancements for the Switch version of Blades.
Will the Switch version be loaded with microtransactions? Will the visuals be improved at all, specifically textures?

While it seemed possible Bethesda might need to update the game for a larger screen, it turns out that this actually wasn’t necessary.
No visual enhancements for The Elder Scrolls: Blades
Nintendo Enthusiast: So was anything enhanced for the TV, since it will be on the big screen for the first time?
Bethesda: It was not necessary. The phones have really high resolutions now. So, what we had already done, it made sure the assets were super high res. So it looks really nice on the big TV as well.
These are comforting words, and I’m glad to hear Bethesda had already made Blades in a high resolution. The overall impressions of how the game plays on Switch is making me excited for it.
Also, on the topic of microtransactions, they will still be present in The Elder Scrolls: Blades. Just like the mobile version, though, they are not intended to hinder the player’s progress. Microtransactions are only there to speed up the pace of the game. So, for better or for worse, the Switch version of Blades will pretty much be the exact same game that exists on mobile devices already.
