The Bard’s Tale, a 2004 action RPG from inXile Entertainment, is joining the Switch library on June 18 as The Bard’s Tale ARPG: Remastered and Resnarkled, which is a refreshing title. InXile Entertainment was purchased by Microsoft in November 2018 to make Xbox games, and this is the developer’s first release on a Nintendo platform since the acquisition.
The Bard’s Tale is a charming action RPG, with a typically British sense of humor. The remaster announcement trailer drives this home, as it’s basically one long, weird comedy sketch. The game features a “snarky or nice” choice system, where the player can affect the outcome of story scenes by choosing certain dialog options. Gameplay-wise, it fits the action RPG mold and the overall package is reminiscent of that of the Fable series.
It’s nice to see another game from an Xbox-owned developer appear on Switch. Yes, it’s a remaster, but inXile’s only other Switch title (Wasteland 2) was released just before the studio was snapped up by Microsoft. The Bard’s Tale ARPG: Remastered and Resnarkled seemingly shows Xbox’s continued yet limited support of Nintendo Switch. The Switch release also features “Xbox network integration,” so “you can keep that gamer score rolling no matter which system you play on!”
What other games now under the watch of Microsoft would you like to see on Switch?
