The Survivalists has received a release date of Oct. 9 from Team17 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox, and PC. The news comes by way of a new release date trailer that offers a taste of what to expect. This game is set in the same universe as The Escapists, which explains the shared visual style, though those charming visuals have been brought over to the more exotic setting of a tropical island.

In The Survivalists, you can go it alone and attempt to press back against the dangers you face or work with up to three friends. The aim of the game is to survive, and that requires resources, crafting, and monkey helpers.

Unlike in The Escapists series, where you were trying to get out of a secure facility, The Survivalists sees you actually building one. Walls will keep you safe from the wild animals and natives. Weapons will help you keep them at bay when there’s no other choice. By salvaging scrap from crashed planes or buying raw materials from the balloon vendor, you can build all sorts of useful amenities. Videos suggest smelting is going to be necessary for making the more advanced items, like weapons or traps.

Anyone who preorders The Survivalists prior to that Oct. 9 release date can get themselves the Monkey Business DLC, which includes new hats for survivors and monkeys like. The former receive the Straw Hat, Escapists Guard Hat, and Unicorn Hat. The latter receive a Top Hat, Chef Hat, Lumberjack Hat, Pirate Hat, Hard Hat, and Crown.

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
