Super Smash Bros. Melee 64 has flipped the script on the many Super Smash Bros. mods like Project M that aim to make other games in the series more like Super Smash Bros. Melee. Now, Super Smash Bros. Melee can be played in a low-polygon style that matches N64-era graphics. Giving Melee a makeover with N64 graphics is not something I’ve ever felt was necessary, that is, before I actually saw it in action. The mod looks fantastic, and everything great about Super Smash Bros. Melee’s gameplay remains the same–it’s just low-poly now. The release video below showcases the mod in action.

Super Smash Bros. Melee 64 also added a bit of extra content to the game. The character roster has stayed largely the same, except Marth now has an alternate skin based on Leif, the protagonist of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. The mod also adds a few new stages based on franchises like Sim City, Nazo no Murasame Jo, Kid Icarus, and Fire Emblem. There is even a stage based on the old Satellaview add-on for the Super Nintendo.

Low-poly remakes are in style nowadays, and Super Smash Bros. Melee was an excellent choice to receive such a makeover. If you are interested in learning more about Super Smash Bros. Nintendo does not have the most mod-friendly track record, so if you are interested in this, you will want to check it out sooner rather than later.
