Super Rare Originals is a new indie game publishing label

Super Rare Originals Games indie publishing label arm support Grapple Dog, Post Void, The Gecko Gods, Lone Ruin, and Completely Stretchy

Super Rare Games has announced the establishment of Super Rare Originals, its new indie game publishing label, and it has revealed the first five of many games that it will publish in collaboration with indie devs. These are Grapple Dog, Post Void, The Gecko Gods, Lone Ruin, and Completely Stretchy, though at present, Super Rare Originals has only confirmed Post Void for a release on “consoles.” (Post Void incidentally launched for PC already in 2020.)

To date, Super Rare Games has been known for releasing physical versions of Nintendo Switch games through its online store, and its mission has always been to support quality indie games however it can. With this new indie publishing label though, it can more directly support the indie developers in getting their games noticed and funded. Super Rare describes its approach as “indie-first,” saying it should feel like an honor for it as a publisher to be able to support these terrific indie games.

Here is some more from Super Rare Games about the establishment of Super Rare Originals for indie game publishing:

We only sign games we are genuinely, personally passionate about; as with all aspects of our business, our main motivator is simply wanting to work on cool things with cool people! While we hope to change the lives of our dev friends, even if a game were to release and break even, we’d still consider it a success to have worked on something awesome and continue to support the game and its developer long-term.

Our goal is to buck the cold, impersonal trends you see in some parts of the industry. We see ourselves as being ‘indie’s best friend’, supporting all different scales of indie devs in every way – from our physical releases of established indie treasures and hidden gems, to our original publishing of games from devs both new and veteran, to our Mixtapes that support small up-and-coming type indie jam developers. We just really, really love indies.

With some recent hires, including Curve Digital founder Jason Perkins, Supermassive Games producer Tom King, an internal QA team, and our existing core team, our combined experience in all things publishing, marketing, QA, and development is really quite special, and we think combined with our incredibly strong line-up we can really make an impact, both for devs and players.

That all sounds terrific, and it reminds me a lot of what Playtonic Games is doing with its Playtonic Friends publishing label. Let us know what you think about Super Rare Originals.
