Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD rolls out on Switch today with two launch trailers

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is out today, marking the first new console release in the series since Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz on Vita in 2012. To celebrate, SEGA has released a launch trailer and a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s development. Give them both a look below.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD had the opportunity to majorly improve the original game’s single-player experience, which was hampered by forced motion controls. Revamping the shovelware-level party games, adding co-op to the main game, and perhaps a few more levels would have given the remake a chance to stand among the franchise’s best.

Unfortunately, that is not how things played out. The game is not flying too high over on Metacritic, with the Switch version currently sitting at a lackluster 67 out of 100. Many reviews cite a very disappointing multiplayer experience and an underwhelming amount of single-player content. It’s such a shame that SEGA does not have a classic title or two in the series that they could have remastered instead. Perhaps even two games that could together offer over a hundred more levels than Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, as well as a much more functional set of party games to work with. Oh, wait…
