What was the first game you played in 2020?

Super Mario 3D All-Stars Sunshine Hover Fludd

A new year is here, and a whole calendar’s worth of exciting games and announcements are sure to follow in due time. In the meantime, though, we make do with what we have, like giant backlogs and holiday gifts. What was the first game you played in 2020?

On a whim, I started up a fresh Super Mario Sunshine playthrough and grabbed forty Shine Sprites. Even though I wrapped up a guideless 100% playthrough just a few short months ago, running through the game’s tropical locales and just enjoying the upbeat atmosphere, smooth controls, relaxing sounds, and colorful backdrops never gets old. As my favorite Nintendo game ever, Super Mario Sunshine is always an easy choice, even if that means neglecting my ever-swelling backlog (and going through the arduous process of blowing the dust off the Wii since Nintendo refuses to give the game a proper remake). Now that I’ve gotten my fix in, though, I may turn my attention to something on the backlog. I should really finish A Hat in Time or continue with Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and I’ll probably do that later tonight.

Have you had the chance to play anything yet in 2020? If so, what was it? Did you try out a recent release, did you dig into your backlog, or did you simply revisit an old favorite? If you have not been able to play anything yet, what do you hope to play first? Let us know in the comments!
