Viz Media has released Super Mario Manga Mania in English at last, available now at retailers like Amazon for around $9. We previously covered the announcement of the manga way back in March, which due to the time dilation effect of 2020 feels like it could have been just a couple months ago. Regardless, this manga is the creation of artist Yukio Sawada, and Mania offers a collection of stories selected by Sawada himself. This series has been running in Japan since 1991, basing its stories on the wide spectrum of Mario games, but this is the first time it has received an official English localization.
Super Mario Manga Mania offers the following vague description: “From crazy to classic, Mario and his friends star in adventures that find them traveling through the many worlds of one of the biggest video game series ever!” GameSpot has a few teaser pages to share as well, a couple of which are below.
As you can see, Super Mario Manga Mania has a distinct and frenetic art style. Mario comes across as a bit more wily than usual, but he’s no less cute. And with 160 pages of adventuring to offer, this manga is likely to delight whomever you buy it for (especially yourself).
