The Nintendo Direct for Super Mario Maker 2 gave us a pipe-load of information. One of the more exciting additions to this much-anticipated sequel, however, was multiplayer modes. Up to 4 players can compete or cooperate with each other in randomly picked levels.
Multiplayer can be done online with anyone from around the world. You can also play with others locally who also own a Switch and a copy of Super Mario Maker 2. A big plus to the latter is that only the host needs a stable online connection.
Competitive play has it so that the first player who clears the course wins. You then rank up much like any competitive online game. So if you enjoyed screwing over your pals while playing the Wii U Super Mario games, this is your jam. The cooperative mode is a slight variation on this where the idea is to help each other. Once one player makes it to the end, everyone wins.
It appears also that players can create and upload levels specifically designed for multiplayer in mind. If so, there are going to be some really creative folks flexing their muscle. Seeing that Famicom race car already makes me want to see 2D Mario Kart levels get made.
What kinds of multiplayer levels would you make or want to see get made in Super Mario Maker 2? Let us know in the comments.
