Super Mario 3D All-Stars remasters 3 classics in HD on September 18

Super Mario 3D All-Stars Galaxy Sunshine Super Mario 64

In today’s Mario-themed Nintendo Direct, a remaster package was finally announced, and it’s coming sooner than you might think. Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a collection of 3D Mario remasters and it launches this month. Containing Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy, the package marks the first time these three games will be available in HD.

All three titles have been optimized for a smooth gameplay experience on Switch. That means high definition visuals, Joy-con support, and more. Judging by the presentation, Super Mario 64 won’t support widescreen mode, but Sunshine and Galaxy will. At present, all three games will be available as one package, and won’t be released separately at launch.

There’s a neat extra included in the package too. Players can listen to tracks from all three games on their Switch systems, even when the screen is off. We’re ready to ride that nostalgia train even when we’re not playing, as that Sunshine tune is just too good.

There’s one strange detail we’ve been made aware of though. Nintendo says that Super Mario 3D All-Stars will consist of a “limited run retail edition” alongside a digital version, which is limited too. These limited run versions will be available through March 2021, and it’s unclear what Nintendo intends to do from that point forward.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars launches September 18, 2020.
