Stubbs the Zombie getting retail physical release

Stubbs the Zombie

Cult classic Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse is receiving a wide physical release at retail, according to publisher THQ Nordic. While no release date has been given just yet, we do know that this new physical edition will run you $30. That’s not too bad for collectors, since acquiring an older copy of the game before its surprise return earlier this year would have cost significantly more.

For those who are out of the loop, Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse is a sixth-gen action game that was originally released on Xbox. The game eventually built up cult classic status thanks to its unusual gameplay loop and crass humor that surrounded around the titular character, Stubbs, taking over a 1950s-style “utopia” by turning the population into an undead horde and commanding it as he saw fit. It’s an unusual, fun experience.

Seeing Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse alive and well is still bewildering. The game’s comeback has been immensely satisfying to behold. After a relatively quiet release and plenty of rights confusion thanks to bankruptcies and the like, it’s wonderful that a new generation of players can try out this concentrated dose of sixth-gen weirdness.

Have you played Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse on Switch? If you have, what did you think of it? Will you be scrambling to pick up this new physical edition, or are you fine with a digital copy? Let us know in the comment section below.
