Star Wars: Republic Commando gets April release date on Switch & PS4

Star Wars: Republic Commando release date April 6 Nintendo Switch PlayStation 4 Aspyr LucasArts squad-based first-person shooter FPS

To the surprise of none, the leaks spotted in server data earlier this month were completely accurate: Publisher Aspyr is porting Star Wars: Republic Commando to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 with a release date of April 6. The game does not seem to have anything in the way of added functionality according to available materials. It appears to be a straight port for modern consoles of the squad-based first-person shooter from LucasArts, where you are tearing up enemies of the Republic. However, the controls have been modernized and the multiplayer component has been removed. Regardless, the game originally released in 2005, so now a whole new generation of console gamers will have easy access to Star Wars: Republic Commando.

Aspyr previously ported Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Star Wars Episode I: Racer to Nintendo Switch, so the arrival of Republic Commando is not shocking but completely welcome. In fact, one of our writers recently basically called out in advance that this would happen. (Kudos, Chirag.) Aspyr’s ports vacillate in quality, as Jedi Academy crashed on me within minutes of first loading it up on Switch, but these games themselves are memorable experiences worth trying.

So, you may want to give Star Wars: Republic Commando a try on Nintendo Switch upon its release date in April, as you wait for whatever Star Wars: Hunters turns out to be.
