Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated release date seemingly leaked by Nintendo

Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated

Nintendo isn’t known for letting stuff slip before it’s supposed to be announced, but they may have done just that with the release date for Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated in a recent tweet of theirs highlighting 2020 Switch games. If their tweet (preserved by @YuYuKamii) is correct, we’ll be soaking up Spongebob in all of his glory in about four months, on May 24, to be exact.

Before Nintendo’s uncharacteristic and likely accidental reveal, all we really knew about the game was that it was coming this year, that there is an over the top collector’s edition for those who live like Larry, and that remastered Bikini Bottom looks pretty damn good. The release date was probably going to be revealed soon, anyway, but more likely in a Direct or through the publisher themselves. Maybe THQ Nordic is just happy with drainingly bland announcement styles.

For a sixth-generation licensed platformer, Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was way better than it had any right to be. The game has a cult following, many of whom will certainly pick the game up for a budget trip down memory lane. It’s a welcome addition to 2020’s first half, which is still pretty crowded despite every game under the sun getting delayed over the last few weeks.

Do you think that Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated will stand the test of time when it comes out in May? Will you be putting it to the test yourself? Let us know in the comments!
