The SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom remaster is almost upon us, over 15 years on from its initial release. The remaster is coming to Nintendo Switch and other platforms on June 23. Now, THQ Nordic has revealed more details about the new co-op mode built exclusively for this remaster, adding to the existing single-player.
This new mode is similar to a typical horde mode, spread across 26 islands with seven playable characters. The trailer shows off SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, Gary, Sandy, Squidward, Plankton, and Patrick as the playable options, each with unique attacking choices. This additional mode also supports two players in both couch and local co-op, a welcome option for Switch users.
Details on this mode were revealed earlier this year, but the co-op offering has evolved since then. Gary has been added to the existing six characters, and here is our first look at the mode.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is also releasing with new physical options. If the standard edition isn’t enough to quench your SpongeBob thirst, a huge F.U.N Edition is coming, complete with three statues and a bunch of other goodies. If the typical single statue is enough, the Shiny Edition may be satisfactory for you.
Are you looking forward to trying out this new co-op mode in SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated?
