Splatoon 3 arrives on Nintendo Switch in 2022

Nintendo wrapped up its Direct presentation on Wednesday with a big Splatoon 3 announcement.

The announcement trailer starts with a look at the character customization. This time, players will get to choose between male and female Inklings and Octolings. From there, players get to choose the skin tone, eye color, hairstyle, and legwear. Splatoon 3 offers more customization options, including 21 different eye colors and nine legwear options compared to the 14 eye colors and five legwear choices in Splatoon 2. There’s also a little buddy that follows you around that you can customize.

The trailer shows more of Splatoon‘s world with new areas that we’ll get to visit in Splatoon 3, including the sun-scorched Splatlands with what appears to be an upside-down Eiffel Tower stuck in the middle of a desert. Splatsville is the new city, home to many battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings.

As seen in the trailer, Splatoon 3 will have plenty of new weapons, moves, and more. While we didn’t get too many details on gameplay, it’s evident that the familiar 4v4 multiplayer ink-splatting action will return. Splatoon 2 introduced new modes, including the co-op horde mode Salmon Run, so it’ll be interesting to see what the third installment adds to the mix.
