This past weekend, a new limited-time Splatfest occurred in Splatoon 2. These player-driven events, where you could choose between two seemingly random choices, were a regular event closer to launch. They stopped back in July 2019, but Nintendo opted to bring one choice back almost a year later. This particular Splatfest choice was mayo vs. ketchup.
The condiment quest began back in 2017, when mayo came out on top in all three of Splatoon 2‘s major regions. This time though, ketchup won the player vote with 55.25%, and the outcome for Pro matches was also a Ketchup majority, at 50.38%. Mayo took bragging rights for standard public matches with 51.71%, but it ultimately proved futile against the tomato-based condiment.
Even Heinz got in on the action with a series of tweets about this one-off Splatfest return. First a simple celebratory tweet, followed up by mocking Team Mayo with a white “L for loser” badge. It’s all in good fun though, as Heinz clearly has its hands in making both of these popular sauces.

Any Splatfest-themed gear will now be taken back, and users on the winning side will get a bonus of five Super Sea Snails. These are used as a currency in Splatoon 2 and can be used to increase gear slots or re-roll secondary gear abilities. It’s unclear whether Splatfest will return to Splatoon 2, but for now, this mayo vs. ketchup rematch looks like the final battle.
