Speedrunner beats Pokémon Shining Pearl in 33 minutes

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl review Nintendo Switch ILCA speedrun

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have been out almost two weeks, which is evidently more than enough time for speedrun tactics to emerge and completely break open the games. YouTuber Werster demonstrated as such with a video uploaded yesterday showing him completing Pokémon Shining Pearl in 33 minutes and ten seconds. That is, at this time, the best confirmed any% time for a run through the game. If you have a few moments, you can watch the entire Pokémon Shining Pearl speedrun below.

Werster used a wide array of glitches to speedrun Pokémon Shining Pearl so quickly (he elaborates on his timesaving wizardry here), including a technique known as “door storage.” Door storage is invoked when the player opens a menu, goes to open a door and interrupts the animation by closing the menu. The interruption prevents many important encounters and events from triggering. All sorts of tricks are possible with door storage, including land surfing, which you’ll be able to behold in full in the video above.

Do you have Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl on your Switch? If so, what do you think of the game? Are you playing the game at a leisurely pace, or trying to blast through it Werster-style? Let us know in the comments below.
