During the Sonic Central livestream, Sega officially announced Sonic Colors: Ultimate, an HD remaster of the 2010 Wii game, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games Store with a release date of Sept. 7, 2021. Physical copies will come with a free keychain featuring Baby Sonic from the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. There will also be a Sonic Colors: Ultimate Digital Deluxe Edition that comes with early access to the game, exclusive music, gold & silver wearables, exclusive player icons, and a “Sonic Movie Boost.” Not much else is known about the game itself aside from it looking beautiful and providing the experience we all know and love.
If you haven’t played Sonic Colors before, then you’re in for one of the best 3D Sonic titles. In my opinion, Colors features some of the best levels in the entirety of the franchise, and as per usual, the music is amazing. The opening “Reach for the Stars” often finds itself in my Spotify playlist, and I never skipped the opening movie when I booted it up on my Nintendo Wii. Hopefully, Sonic Colors: Ultimate will add some extra content to an already great game. There were two versions released in 2010, one for the DS and one for the Wii. Maybe this version of the game will combine elements from each platform. In any case, Sonic Colors: Ultimate preorders will be available soon.
During the presentation, Roger Craig Smith, the voice of Sonic, announced an animated series called Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps, which will arrive in summer 2021. Presumably, episodes will be released in a similar fashion to Sonic Mania: Adventures, another animated series by Sega. Are you excited for Sonic Colors: Ultimate and its September release date?
