Sonic Central event on May 27 will bring franchise news from Sega

Sonic the Hedgehog 30th anniversary Sonic Central virtual showcase

Sega has announced Sonic Central, a virtual showcase that will reveal new Sonic the Hedgehog projects, partnerships, and events for the 30th anniversary of the franchise, and it will occur on May 27 at noon ET / 9 a.m. PT on YouTube and Twitch. Additionally, Sega has launched a new video campaign to further commemorate the 30th anniversary of Sonic, called “Unstoppable.” It is a “fan appreciation video showcasing a nostalgic look back at the franchise as the Blue Blur speeds forward to inspire future generations,” with the intention being for Sonic to inspire us to keep pushing forward.

Sega has not been explicit about whether or not to expect new Sonic the Hedgehog video game announcements at Sonic Central, and it could always be the case that it will hold back its biggest game announcements for an event like E3 2021. Nonetheless, some smaller game reveals seem likely, especially given recent rumors and leaks. There is a potential Sonic Colors remaster in development, a rumor that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will finally see re-release, and retailer listings for something generically called Sonic Collection.

In any case, Sonic Central will surely show off new licensed merchandise for the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, such as that cool and expansive encyclopedia.
