Someone removed all of Gen 8’s missing Pokémon from the PokéRap

There has been no shortage of controversy surrounding Game Freak’s decision to leave out hundreds of Pokémon from Pokémon Sword and Shield. Some have been ambivalent about the decision, others angry, and some have decided to extract as much humor as they can from the situation. One Pokemon fan (well, we don’t know if they are still a fan) decided to edit the original Gen 1 PokéRap, taking out all the Pokémon that will be missing from the series’ next release. The song is now… a lot shorter than we remember it.

Several commentators have pointed out the PokéRap has some irony; at the end, the narrator yells: “Gotta catch ’em all!”

Pokémon Sword and Shield release this Friday, Nov. 15, on the Switch. The review embargo lifted earlier today and the game has an 81 so far on Metacritic. Unfortunately, this is not the full landscape of game media. Nintendo decided to withhold review codes for most outlets, including Nintendo Enthusiast, until launch day. Nintendo chose to hold the codes as a result of the rampant leaks from last week. We will have our review up soon after the game’s launch.

Are you excited to pick up Pokémon Sword or Shield this Friday? Did the edited PokéRap give you a chuckle? Let us know in the comments below!
