Sol Cresta, that game that PlatinumGames originally announced as an April Fools’ Day joke then revealed as an actual game in development a year later, has been delayed from its December 9 release date. The news comes from a livestream titled “Hideki Kamiya’s Very Sorry Stream” from PlatinumGames earlier this morning.
We’re a month away from the launch of Sol Cresta, but Kamiya explained in the stream that the developers had to delay the game due to schedule and quality issues that they would like to focus on. After giving it some thought, PlatinumGames felt that Sol Cresta would need more time to develop and decided to delay the release. We didn’t get a new release date or window, but we can expect to see it sometime in 2022 if things go smoothly.
Here’s a translation about the delay from the start of the stream:
We worked hard on the development of Sol Cresta while aiming for a release date of December 9, 2021. However, I must sincerely apologize now that the release date is no longer possible. We announced a release date of December 9 and surely many of you have been looking forward to it. We truly apologize for making you guys wait longer.
Hideki Kamiya explained that the developers ended up biting off more than they could chew for the game. However, in the end, the decision for the Sol Cresta delay came from wanting quality over sticking to a schedule.

The livestream is about an hour long, but it starts at around the 17:55 mark.
Sol Cresta is in development for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
