Skyward Sword not planned for Switch after all

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Nintendo Switch

Last Sunday, the news raced across Chinese social media that Eiji Aonuma, Zelda series producer, had teased The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Nintendo Switch during the Zelda concert at Nintendo Live 2018. When we reported this news, we said to treat this as a rumor, and, well… I hope you listened.

A Nintendo spokesperson speaking to Eurogamer said, “At this time we have no plans to release The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch.” Sooo that’s pretty much the ball game right there, folks.

Yes, it’s possible this is all a giant case of misdirection on Nintendo’s part, intended to announce Skyward Sword in a dramatic way at a later date. But what’s more likely is that the game just ain’t planned for Switch, like the man (or woman?) says. It’s a bummer for fans, but it’s far from unlikely that the game won’t return in some form, someday. After all, we know how much Nintendo loves to sell people stuff they already own.
